(4652) Basin method of irrigation, or Irrigation by beds
1 - A method of irrigating orchards whereby each tree or a group of trees is surrounded by a low ridge of earth to form a small submersion check. Each basin is of round or ring-like shape (to prevent the water from stagnating at the collar of the tree. Water may be supplied directly from a supply ditch or be drained from another basin. 2 - A method of surface irrigation, whereby large streams of water are introduced to level or nearly level plots of land, which can be up to several hectares in size. To promote uniformity of infiltration, the inflow should be large enough to inundate an entire basin in a small fraction of the intake opportunity time.
